BES vs BIS

In simple terms, Blackberry Enterprise Server (BES) is an email service provided by a server ran by a company, i.e. your employer. While Blackberry Internet Service (BIS) is an email service provided by the respective telecommunication providers, i.e. Singtel, Starhub, M1, T-Mobile, Verizon, AT&T, etc.

BES is typically deployed and managed within the enterprise by messaging administrators (for example, the individuals already responsible for managing Microsoft Exchange, Lotus Domino, or Novell GroupWise) or sometimes a dedicated IT person, usually called the BlackBerry or BES Administrator.

BIS is managed by your telecommunication providers.

Using Hoiio with BES plan

If you are using BES plan, your Internet connection would be routed through your company's firewall. If you have Internet connection problem when using Hoiio, please consult your company IT admin on the the Firewall restriction that is blocking Hoiio.

You might also need to go to Options > Security Options, and set TLS to Handheld.

Using Hoiio with BIS plan

You can use BIS with Hoiio. The common problem a BIS user faces when using Hoiio is about internet connection. If you encounter the same issue, you might need to configure BlackBerry's connection setting to use direct TCP.
