To use Hoiio when you are overseas, you need to enable data roaming. It is because Hoiio uses GPRS to initiate calls and sending SMS.
If you enable data roaming and do not want to incur expensive roaming charges, you need to switch off iPhone push notifications and set email to fetch data manually (if you have email accounts in your iPhone).

To switch off Push Notifications

  • Go to Settings > Notifications: Off

To set email to fetch manually

  1. Go to Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars > Fetch New Data
  2. Set Push: Off
  3. Set Fetch: Manually

To enable data while you are roaming

  • Go to Settings > General > Network > Data Roaming: On
